IX International Rangeland Congress - IRC2011

"Diverse Rangelands for a Sustainable Society"

Rosario, Argentina – Del 2 al 8 de Abril de 2011

On behalf of the Argentinean Organizing Committee, we cordially invite you to participate in the IX International Rangeland Congress – IRC2011, from April 02nd to April 08th in Rosario, Santa Fe State, Argentina.

Argentina has a great diversity of soil and climatic conditions, with a slope from West to East and from North to South. As a result, there are different types of vegetation and, within them, at least 20 different rangelands.

Between the Andean mountains in the West and the Atlantic Ocean in the East and South, Argentina has about 58 million bovines; almost 70 % of the cattle are raised on rangelands. Rangelands also support herd of sheep, goats, horses, mules, donkeys, guanacos, llamas and vicuñas. Hundreds of villages, small towns, hamlets and rural-urban communities develop their productive and social activities in these environments.

The gaucho, considered as an Argentinean symbol, is also considered as a symbol of generosity, solidarity and friendship. For decades, has been identified with cattle rising in huge rangelands.

Our dream is to preserve our rangelands, to recover the ones that where deteriorated as well as to manage them in a sustainable way, not only as grazing lands, but also mantaining their overall integrity with their beauties and biodiversity.

Rosario is a modern city with one million inhabitants. It features an amazing contrast of metropolitan life and natural environment. The city's size and scale make it visitors' friendly. Immigrants from all over the world came to the city and gave rise to a cosmopolitan, warm, kind population linked to commerce and port activities. One of Rosario's main attractions is its magnificent, 15 km long riverside and its natural, wild hinterland just across the striking Parana River. Rosario enjoys an intense cultural life; our artists and musicians are known nationally and internationally. Meeting places, leisure and entertainment are diverse and can meet different expectations.

You are all kindly invited to join the IX International Rangeland Congress – IRC2011, to be held from April 02 to April 08, 2011, in Rosario, Argentina. The congress is organized by INTA –National Institute of Agricultural Technology- and AAMPN –Argentinean Association for Range Management.

In the spirit of our gauchos, we offer our visitors hospitality and friendship.
